Addition of staff in CHSLDs and other residences for seniors

8 April 2020 à 12:00 am

Nursing staff and doctors will be added to CHSLDs and other seniors’ residences to support the resources already in place in the fight against COVID-19.

Health Minister Danielle McCann clarified, however, that this does not mean that CHSLDs will have to assume the more serious cases.

The staff who will be added to the residences and CHSLDs are those who are currently waiting to receive new cases in the hospitals. The Premier of Quebec, François Legault, recalled that Quebec wants to protect the elderly, who are more vulnerable and at risk of developing complications associated with the virus.

“Where the situation is worrying, it is in CHSLDs and retirement homes. I asked for staff, nurses and doctors to be added. It’s really my priority. We must do everything to protect our elderly. If we want to return to normal life in May, we must continue to be very disciplined in April. One thing is very clear: we should not spoil everything we have accomplished together in the past few weeks.” – François Legault, Premier of Quebec

François Legault said that he is continuing to see encouraging signs in the stabilization of hospitalizations and the number of patients in intensive care, despite the addition of 29 death in Quebec over the last 24 hours. To date, 150 people have died from COVID-19 in Quebec, almost half of which are in CHSLDs. No death was however noted in Outaouais.
