Last week the government of Quebec announced that they would be investing $3 billion into the provincial daycare system by 2024/25, with a goal of creating 37,000 new places in the system by 2025.
During the press conference with Premier François Legault and Minister for Families Mathieu Lacombe, the Pontiac region recieved some attention. In a recent conversation with CHIP 101.9, Lacombe said that no requests for spaces had been filed in the MRC Pontiac, despite a glaring need. He approached the MRC and they worked on a proposal to add more subsidized spaces in the area.
In addition to the 19,000 places in the process of being created, the provincial government intends to add another 17,000 spots over the next three and a half years. Lacombe added that 1,000 places will be set aside for Indigenous communities.
