9 July 2020 à 12:00 am

A man, possibly in psychological distress, physically assaulted a police officer from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), on July 1, in the municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract.

According to information provided by the SQ information officer, Sergeant Marc Tessier, the police received a call at around 10:30 am concerning a person in psychological distress who allegedly threw a rock at a vehicle, damaging one of the mirrors. The event occurred on Chemin des Chutes, in Mansfield.

On the spot of the indecent, police located the suspect who struck the policeman in the jaw with the mirror of the vehicle. The 44-year-old man was overpowered by the police, then taken to the hospital for appropriate treatment. The assaulted police officer was brought to the CLSC to treat his injuries and was discharged later that day.

The suspect is scheduled to appear at the Gatineau courthouse later this summer for assault and assault against a peace officer.
